Women In Business Committee Presents Special Olympics Colorado
This Unified Leadership Presentation serves to teach a more unified approach to not only the workplace but life in general. We seek to use our own experiences and knowledge, with the support of Special Olympics to educate those without disabilities on how to be more open to those who are different than themselves.
Throughout the presentation we will discuss basic information about Special Olympics Colorado, what an intellectual disability is and what the Unified Leadership approach is and how to use it.
We hope that you will leave with more knowledge in these areas, confidence on this topic, and a willingness to advocate alongside us.
Our first guest speaker, Hanna Atkinson Unified Leadership Fellow & Sargent Shriver International Global Messenger, of Special Olympics Colorado, lives in Littleton Colorado. She has been an avid public speaker on an international level, and became a Denver 7 contributor in 2015.
Through her work with Denver 7, she was awarded the Heartland Broadcast Emmy in 2017 for her segment "More Alike Than Different." Also in 2017, Hanna was selected to be a Special Olympics International Health Messenger in order to educate fellow athletes on becoming their best in sports and in life. In 2018 she was chosen to be a reporter for Channel Kindness, highlighting acts of kindness to inspire a kinder, braver world. She is a co-author for Lady Gaga’s book called Channel Kindness and read her stories for the audio book as well. Hanna was also chosen as a Sargent Shriver International Global Messenger for 2019-2024, where she serves as an ambassador for Special Olympics International.
She is creating a business to inspire joy, acceptance, and empowerment in memory of her brother. As an athlete with Special Olympics Colorado, Hanna competes in cycling and ski racing, and maintains her active participation in health challenges provided by Special Olympics Colorado.
Our second guest speaker, Stephanie Levine, Athlete Leadership & Family Services Manager of Special Olympics Colorado, serves as the Athlete Leadership and Family Services Manager for Special Olympics Colorado and has been in this position since August of 2019.
As part of her role, she has expanded the athlete leadership program and has continues to work alongside athletes in providing more meaningful opportunities to guide the organization for athlete leaders. Stephanie in both her personal and work life, demonstrates a commitment to inclusion and has long been a part of the intellectual disability community as a teacher, camp counselor, young professionals board member, cousin, friend, volunteer and more.
Stephanie's favorite part about SOCO is the constant drive for inclusion and being on a team that promotes the acceptance and inclusion of all individuals. In her spare time she enjoys all of the outdoor perks of living in Colorado; camping, hiking, snowboarding also cooking, travelling, and spending time with family and friends
The Women In Business committee is to serve as a voice for all women in business, acting as an advocate on issues that affect their professional growth and long term economic vitality.
