Report on Educational Equity: Creating a Colorado for All
Creating a Colorado for All means that we acknowledge that our state must have an intentional and specific focus on race and ethnicity to erase educational equity gaps. This is a historic time in American history, one in which the choices we make set the stage for how Colorado will look in the coming years, and how far we go in the fight for equality.
We must live and breathe equity, infusing it in all of our work. If we fail, others will perceive us as neutral on the topic, and follow suit. Success allows us to build coalitions and collaborative networks on campuses to better support students of color and eliminate gaps in who enrolls, persists, and completes higher education and who does not.

Dr. Montoya has worked for the City and County of Denver and the University of Colorado Denver where he led and implemented initiatives that centered on race and social justice with the goal of positively changing outcomes for all. He has taught several undergraduate and graduate courses at the University of Colorado Denver in the School of Education regarding the social foundations of race in education and society.
Dr. Montoya has 14 peer-reviewed publications and his research focuses on educational equity, speculative race fiction, and teacher education. He holds a B.S. in political science from Colorado Mesa University, an M.A. in ethnic studies from Regis University, and a Ph.D. in urban education from the University of Colorado Denver. Raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Dr. Montoya is committed to community, praxis, and elevating BIPOC epistemologies. He is a father, partner, scholar, educator, and self-proclaimed jazz and hip hop head.

The Aurora Chamber of Commerce Diversity & Inclusion Council meets Bi-Monthly on the 2nd Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. On the months that we do not meet, video resources will be emailed to our council members.
