About Our Guest Speaker:
Theo was born in Ghana and moved to the US in 2003 after spending some time in South London in England. Theo holds a bachelor’s degree in Social Science and an MPH from the Colorado School of Public Health. Theo continues to advocate as a Member of the Colorado Black Health Collaborative, Clinical Trust Solutions and is a staunch volunteer at community events that are focused on improving Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

Theo Abbey is passionate about public health and health equity with close to 15 years’ experience working with underserved populations. His interests in equitable education and overall equity led to a previous role with the State Health Department as a Workforce and Health Equity Specialist where he was instrumental in creating a new Healthcare futures Program that will be focused on increasing participation of clinicians of Color in the Loan Repayment Incentive Program via recruiting First year College students who have expressed an interest in the medical field.

Theo's lived experience and professional experience as an educational pro-tech, A youth Counselor, Disease intervention specialist, and HIV Care Manager with Denver Public Schools,  The City and County of Denver, The State Health Department and Kaiser Permanente respectively have heightened my passion around equity issues. Theo has also taken Health Equity cohort classes through the Rocky Mountain Public Health Practice to increase his knowledge and expertise.   I enjoy playing/coaching kid’s soccer on volunteer basis, meeting new people and visiting the hot springs when the opportunity arises
